Shot by Richard Avedon,1986
While the 90s and 2000s were experimental and rebellously sexy, Gianni's Versace designs of the 80s are bold, sharp and commanding.
The 80s era of Versace is truly the most loud of all, particularly due to his play with geometric details that are arresting in design. The powerful silhouettes combined with these abstract prints were finely tuned with exquisite craftsmanship and play with multiple textures of fabric and finish to give it an impact. These campaigns, shot by the great Avedon back in 86, highlighted Gianni's masterful play with layers and marriage of clashing prints to evoke the kind of woman he envisioned the Versace woman.

The collection from the runway itself was worthy of to note the glamor and pomp of the 80s.

These motifs made their way to the 90s and even in the 2000s and later the 2020s:
Dario Vitale's Versace, which fittingly gave an ode to the best spirit of Gianni's work in the 80s and 90s.
